SMU Final Year Student Project: Circular Marketplace

Type:

SMU Final Year Project

Dates:

01 Jun 2026 - 30 Oct 2026

Partners:

Singapore Management University (SMU)

How can sustainability awareness be transformed into everyday purchasing decisions? This Final Year Project challenges Singapore Management students from the Computing and Information Systems Faculty to design and develop a digital marketplace that supports circular consumption while helping consumers better understand the environmental impact of their purchases. Working with The Circular Classroom, students will explore how technology can be used to connect textile waste reduction with sustainable product choices. The project focuses on creating an integrated e-commerce platform that showcases products made from pre-loved school uniforms, highlights their environmental benefits, and provides customers with a seamless journey from learning about sustainability to actively participating in it through their purchasing decisions. Students will apply their skills in software development, user experience design, database management, e-commerce systems and data analytics to a real-world sustainability challenge. Beyond building an online store, students will explore features such as impact tracking, product storytelling, inventory integration, sales analytics and customer engagement tools. By developing digital solutions that encourage sustainable consumption, the SMU students contribute to advancing circular economy practices and creating new pathways for reducing textile waste in Singapore.
